Amnesty International is an internationally known human-rights advocacy group. Winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976, the group functions through community and student based groups that use various forms of advocacy to work for equal human rights around the globe. AI is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion.

Amnesty at Northwestern

At Northwestern, the Amnesty chapter is currently focusing on:

  • Letter-writing and petitioning to political figures around the world regarding human rights abuses
  • Fundraising for specific campaigns & non-profit groups working on human rights issues
  • Bringing speakers, film screenings, & other events to NU to raise awareness of human rights issues
  • Providing students with opportunities for internships, volunteer work, and active engagement in the human rights field

Each year, we will focus on a select number of campaigns. We will hold a campaign week full of educational discussions, film screenings, lectures, and fundraising events revolving around a particular issue. This year, our 4 campaigns are:

  • Stop Violence Against Women (Fall Quarter; November 16-20)
  • International Justice (Winter Quarter)
  • Corporate Accountability (Winter Quarter)
  • Darfur (Spring Quarter)

We are extremely excited about the incredible opportunity to raise funds and awareness on campus of these critical international issues. And we’d love for you to help us out! Be sure to email one of our Co-Presidents if you’d like to get involved! Contact information is in the “Exec Board” section.
